Before You Hit 'Post' on That Business Review… Read This.

One review! Good or Bad...that’s all it takes to impact a small business’s income, reputation, and momentum, sometimes permanently.

We recently hosted a guest at one of our Airbnb properties. The listing clearly states: “Close to nightlife – vibrant, energetic, and yes, sometimes noisy.”
It’s part of the charm for many, but not for everyone.

Despite highlighting this detail upfront, the guest left a negative review, citing noise as a major complaint although he did state that everything else was perfect.

The review stayed on the platform. Our rating dropped. And so did our bookings.

Similarly, my son and his fiancée had a glowing review for their property, the guest called it “cool” and complimented the space.
But they gave it 3 stars. No reason. No context. And again, the rating slipped.

🔍 Here’s the thing: Reviews matter. Platforms like Airbnb, Google, and TripAdvisor use them to rank listings and promote (or hide) businesses. A single low rating can cause a ripple effect, discouraging future guests and directly impacting the host’s livelihood.

So next time you're writing a review, please ask yourself:
✅ Did I read the description properly?
✅ Were the "issues" actually surprises, or were they clearly communicated?
✅ Am I being fair in how I'm rating versus what I'm saying?

Small businesses thrive on thoughtful, honest, and fair feedback.
Not perfection, but perspective. Why not post a good review on a business and support them rather than wait for something bad to happen before we become keyboard warriors!
