When a beautiful property in Gordon’s Bay hit the market, I received an enquiry from an interested buyer on the very first day. As always, I responded promptly and began engaging as part of my standard client-first process.
About 30 minutes later, I got a call from an external agent who mentioned he had a client interested in the same property. At that point, I didn't realize it was the exact same buyer who had already reached out to me directly.
When I found out, the external agent asked if I would be willing to work with him, explaining that he had been assisting this buyer for some time and had already shown him a few homes in Gordon’s Bay. At that moment, I could have chosen to keep the deal to myself and protect my full commission. But putting my ego aside and staying true to the Spectrum Realty ethos, collaboration over competition. I chose to share. I knew that the most important thing was helping the buyer find their dream home and getting the deal across the line for my seller.
The deal was anything but easy. Both the buyer and seller were strong negotiators, and for weeks we went back and forth on price, deposit, and even property condition issues. It was a tough, draining process. At one point, the seller even decided to walk away completely.
Two weeks later, I got a call from the seller asking about any new developments. We hadn’t received new enquiries since, and I suggested we revisit the deal that had been so close to finalizing. I encouraged the seller to consider a compromise, and together we found common ground.
That conversation changed everything. The deal came back to life, a new offer was signed, and today it’s successfully in progress.
There are so many lessons in this story: the importance of humility, the power of persistence, and the magic that happens when we put people before egos.
At Spectrum Realty, this is who we are, agents who believe that sharing, collaborating, and focusing on client success is what truly sets us apart.
